Dúbravy (until 1927 Slovak "Dúbrava" or "Očovská Dúbrava"; Hungarian Kisócsa - until 1907 Dobróocsova ) is a municipality in the center of Slovakia with 949 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which is located in Okres Detva , part of the Banskobystrický kraj , lies.
geography
The community is located in the east of the Zvolenská kotlina basin between the Dúbravský potok in the east and Želobudzský potok in the west, both in the Slatina catchment area . From the north and partly to the east, Dúbravy is overshadowed by the Poľana mountains . The center of the village is at an altitude of 436 m nm and is seven kilometers from Detva and 22 kilometers from Zvolen .
Neighboring communities are Očová in the southwest, west and north and Detva in the east and southeast.
history
Almost nothing is known about the history of Dúbravy up to the 18th century, but today's municipal area was a dense oak forest in a corner of the Vígľaš estate at that time . From this the place, which emerged at the end of the 18th century through the outsourcing of Očová, got its name (the word dúbrava means "oak grove" in German). In 1828 there were 28 houses and 249 residents who lived on agriculture and livestock. The first school was built in 1832, and a Catholic school was added in 1863.
Until 1918 the place in Sohl County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today Slovakia. The municipality was independent, but remained closely linked to Očová in many administrative matters; so the first post office was not established until 1929. After the elementary school was closed in 1976, only one kindergarten remains in Dúbravy to this day.
