Látky

Látky (Hungarian Látka ) is a municipality in the center of Slovakia with 595 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which is located in Okres Detva , part of Banskobystrický kraj .

The municipality is located in the Veporské vrchy Mountains , part of the Slovak Ore Mountains . The height in the 45.7 km² large municipal area varies from 700 m nm to 1100 m nm (highest mountain Bykovo with 1111 m nm ). Due to its location, there are several streams in the municipality that flow into the Ipeľ and Slatina rivers. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 830 m nm and is nine kilometers from Hriňová and 22 kilometers from Detva .

Administratively, the municipality is officially divided into six parts: Čechánky, Látky, Mláky, Nový Svet, Paseky and Polianky.

history

The present municipality was established in 1953 when the settlements Býkovo, Čechánky, Malíkov, Mláky, Nový Svet, Paseky, Petrová, Podbýkovo, Polianky, Sekcia, Táňovo, Vrch Ipeľ and Vyhnanec were separated from the municipality of Málinec .

The place Látky originated in the early 18th century when the powerful Hungarian family Zichy invited people from the Kysuce , the Bytča area and the Orava to settle the densely wooded area and work as lumberjacks. The year of the first written mention is given as 1715 or 1734 depending on the source. A glassworks was founded in 1820, but it ceased operations in 1895 due to a lack of skilled workers.

According to the 2011 census, Látky had 577 inhabitants, 548 of whom were Slovaks and 1 Magyar. 28 residents gave no answer. 485 residents confessed to the Roman Catholic Church, 3 residents to the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2 residents to the Evangelical Church, 1 resident to the Greek Catholic Church and 4 other denominations. 18 inhabitants had no denomination and 64 inhabitants had no denomination.
