Cityscape

The most important building is the Bytča Castle of the Thurzo family , built in the Renaissance style between 1571 and 1574 , which was planned by the Italian master builder Kilian from Milan . It was built on the site of an earlier Gothic moated castle from the 13th century. The castle has a square plan with an inner courtyard and round towers ( rondels ) at the four corners.

For the wedding of his daughter in 1601 Georg Thurzo had a long rectangular wedding palace built on the model of Italian villas . The upper floor of the two-story wedding palace consists of a large room measuring 34.5 × 12.5 meters, which was used for wedding and funeral ceremonies. The building complex also includes administrative and farm buildings.
