Hvozdnica (Hungarian Fürészfalu - until 1907 Hvoznic ) is a municipality in northwestern Slovakia with 1201 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to Okres Bytča , part of Žilinský kraj .
geography
The village is located on the southern slope of the Javorník Mountains in the valley of the Štiavnik brook , which flows into the Mikšová reservoir below the village and reaches the Váh over the Hričovský kanál . The center of the village is at an altitude of 327 m nm and is six and a half kilometers from Bytča and 15 kilometers from Považská Bystrica .
Neighboring municipalities are Štiavnik in the north, Bytča (part of Malá Bytča ) in the northeast, Predmier in the east and southeast, Bytča (parts of Beňov and Mikšová ) in the south, Jasenica in the southwest, Stupné in the west and Brvnište in the northwest.
history
Hvozdnica was first mentioned in writing in 1250 as Hoznucha and came under the rule of the Waagburg in the 14th century . Local law was organized in the late Middle Ages according to German Silleine law. In 1828 there were 97 houses and 757 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.
The municipality in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 1176 inhabitants in Hvozdnica, of which 1161 were Slovaks and one Croat and one Czech . 13 residents gave no information on ethnicity .
1125 residents confessed to the Roman Catholic Church, 2 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident each to the Old Catholic Church and the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. 15 residents had no denomination and 32 residents had no denomination.
