Brvnište (Hungarian Boronás - until 1907 Brovnistye ) is a municipality in northwestern Slovakia with 1218 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and belongs to the Okres Považská Bystrica , a district of the Trenčiansky kraj .
geography
The community is located on the southern slope of the Javorníky Mountains in the valley of the Papradnianka brook , which runs approximately in a northwest-southeast direction and belongs to the catchment area of the Váh . The center of the village is at an altitude of 367 m nm and is 13 kilometers from Považská Bystrica .
Neighboring communities are Papradno in the north, Štiavnik in the east, very close to Hvozdnica in the southeast, Stupné in the south and Udiča and briefly Hatné in the west.
history
A hoard of axes from the Late Bronze Age comes from today's municipal area , other finds from the Puchau culture date from the 1st century BC. Chr.
The present-day place arose in the 16th century as a result of Wallachian colonization and was first mentioned in writing in 1589 as a fatality . In 1720 the village had 29 taxpayers, in 1784 there were 191 houses, 160 families and 827 residents. In 1786 a paper mill was in operation. In 1828 there were 125 houses and 1,062 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.
Both places in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 , after which they became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Brvnište had 1,182 inhabitants, of which 1,133 were Slovaks and 5 were Czechs . 44 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
1018 residents confessed to the Roman Catholic Church, 6 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 2 residents each to the Evangelical Church AB and the Jewish community and 1 resident to the Czechoslovak Hussite Church ; 1 resident indicated another denomination. 67 inhabitants were without religious denomination and the denomination of 85 inhabitants was not determined.
