geography
The municipality is located between the Strážovské vrchy mountain ranges in the southwest and Súľovské vrchy in the north, in a small basin on the Domanižanka brook , a left tributary of the Váh . The center of the village is at an altitude of 391 m. Domaniža can be reached via the national road 517 and is 11 kilometers from Rajec and 13 kilometers from Považská Bystrica .
In addition to the main town, the municipality also includes the municipality part Kardošova Vieska (Hungarian Kardos ), which was incorporated in 1974. The Domanižská Lehota (Hungarian Domanizslehota ) has been incorporated into the capital since 1902 .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1268 as Domanysa . A parish and a priest are already mentioned there. At the same time, there should be a castle not far from the village, but there are no written documents about its existence. In 1559 Domaniža was given the right to hold weekly markets and two annual fairs and thus became a de facto market town. The main occupation was agriculture, there were also two saws, two distilleries and weaving mills.
