geography
The municipality is located in the Javorníky Mountains , in the valley of the Papradnianka brook , which flows from north to south-east before it flows into the Váh . Papradno is 16 kilometers away from Považská Bystrica . The community area is 80 percent forested (mostly conifers).
In addition to the main town, the municipality also includes the municipality part Podjavorník (named after the Veľký Javorník mountain) and other unofficial settlements and hamlets.
history
Settlement of today's municipality probably began in the 14th century, on what was then Jasenica . This Wallachian colonization lasted until the 16th century, which also created various hamlets in the mountains. The place is mentioned in writing for the first time in 1525 as Spapradna and was tribute to the estate of Bitsch .
