Seán Dunphy
Seán Dunphy (* in Whitehall , Dublin , † May 17, 2011 in Baldoyle , Dublin) was an Irish singer.
Life
In the early 1960s, after finishing his military service, Dunphy worked as a carpenter . In his spare time he was a singer in a band called Keymen . He eventually went to England to work as a carpenter. While he worked during the day he sang at night in Hibernian Ballroom in London district of Fulham . At that time he learned that a new singer was being sought for the show band The Hoedowners . Dunphy then applied and got the job. The band released a total of 14 singles between 1966 and 1973, all of which made it into the Irish charts. The titles Lonely Woods of Upton and When The Fields Were White With Daisies even made it to number 1 in 1969. Dunphy himself also scored two solo hits in the late 1970s.
At the Eurovision Song Contest 1967 he represented Ireland as a solo artist and achieved second place with the title If I Could Choose .
In 2007 he had to undergo quadruple bypass surgery. Nevertheless, he remained active as a singer. He gave his last concert just 24 hours before his death.
Dunphy was married with four children, three sons and a daughter. His son Brian is a member of The High Kings .
