Life

Niamh Kavanagh was a bank clerk before she was discovered as a singer. In 1993 she took part in the Irish preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest , which she won by a long way ahead of the second-placed group Champ. Her song was called In your eyes and was written by Jimmy Walsh. Niamh Kavanagh won the Millstreet competition with 187 points ahead of the representatives from Great Britain and Switzerland . She was the second consecutive Irish winner. The song was a huge commercial hit in Ireland and became the best-selling single of the year. In other countries, the title was less successful, but was able to place in some countries in the charts.

After her appearance at the competition, Kavanagh recorded more singles and albums, but could not build on the success of In your eyes . In 1994 and 1997 she had short guest appearances at the Eurovision Song Contest (1994 to present the prize to the following winners), in 2006 she appeared in the Irish preliminary round of the competition after her winning song was voted one of the top 10 most popular Irish entries. In 1999 she recorded a new version of her winning title.
