Duncan Laurence (actually Duncan de Moor , born April 11, 1994 in Spijkenisse , Netherlands ) is a Dutch singer and songwriter . As an interpreter of the song Arcade , he won the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 and thus achieved the fifth victory for the Netherlands in this competition.
life and career
He first appeared in 2014 when he took part in the talent show The Voice of Holland . There he joined Ilse DeLange's team and made it to the semi-finals.
In 2019 he completed his training at the Rock Academy in Tilburg . There he was trained as a songwriter, singer and music producer. He also spent a lot of time in London and Stockholm writing songs.
On January 21, 2019, the broadcaster AVROTROS announced that it would represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv , Israel . His English-language song Arcade was presented on March 7, 2019. Shortly after the song was presented, Duncan Laurence took first place in the betting odds of most bookmakers. He lived up to his role as a favorite and won the competition on May 18, 2019.
In October 2018, Duncan Laurence announced on an Instagram post that he was bisexual and had a boyfriend. Shortly before the final of the Eurovision Song Contest , he confirmed this again at a press conference. In September 2019, he announced the separation.
