Trijntje Oosterhuis
Judith Katrijntje "Trijntje" Oosterhuis (born February 5, 1973 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch jazz and pop singer .
Live and act
Oosterhuis is the daughter of the theologian, poet and former Catholic priest Huub Oosterhuis (* 1933) and the violinist Jozefien Melief from the Amsterdam Promenade Orchestra.
In 1990 she formed the band Total Touch with her brother Tjeerd Oosterhuis (* 1971) and took part in the Dutch youth competition Grote Prijs van Nederland . In 1994 she worked with Candy Dulfer and accompanied them on tours around the world for two years. In 1995 she had great success with the band Total Touch in the Netherlands with the debut album Total Touch from 1996 and the follow-up album This Way . In 1996 she sang at the opening of the Amsterdam Arena ( De Zee ). The band broke up in 2001 and Trijntje Oosterhuis pursued a solo career. Before that she had already turned to jazz several times and sang a. a. at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2000 with Al Jarreau and accompanied by the pianist Michiel Borstlap , who later was her companion, like the guitarist Leonardo Amuedo . Her 2004 jazz album Strange Fruit with song repertoire by Billie Holiday and George Gershwin on Blue Note Records reached number two in the Netherlands. The album gained her attention beyond the Netherlands and the album The Look of Love from 2006 with titles by Burt Bacharach , who also accompanied her, reached number one on the Dutch album charts. A tour for the album with the Metropole Orkest followed . She also worked with Bacharach on a second album and accompanied it on a tour of Japan. Since 2002 she has a record deal with EMI .
Oosterhuis sang with Lionel Richie at the Symphonica in Rosso concert in Arnhem 2008 (duet Face in the Crowd , also on Richie's album Just Go in 2009), with Bobby McFerrin in the Concertgebouw in 2004, with Toots Thielemans in the Concertgebouw in 2002 (accompanied by the Concertgebouw Jazz Orchestra) and several times at the North Sea Jazz Festival, around 1999 with Herbie Hancock . In 2002 she sang with Queen on Koninginnedag in Amsterdam on Museumplein .
In 2004 she received the Gouden Harp (Golden Harp), after winning the Silver Harp as the best young talent in 1997. In 2008 she received the Edison Jazz Award as a vocal artist for Who'll Speak for Love .
She has two sons (2004, 2006) and a daughter (2015).
In the semifinals of the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 on May 19, 2015, Oosterhuis represented the Netherlands with the song Walk Along , but did not qualify for the final among the 16 participants. Furthermore, two weeks after the ESC, the Dutch eurovisionhouse website presented her with the Barbara Dex Award for the worst costume in the competition.
