Humphrey Campbell (born February 28, 1958 ) is a Dutch singer and music producer of Surinamese origin.

biography

In 1973, Campbell won a music competition in his Surinamese homeland, which was followed by a tour of Europe as the prize. He then stayed in the Netherlands , where he published the song I really love you in 1975 . More songs followed by 1980. From 1982 he studied at the Conservatory in Hilversum . His main subject was singing, with piano as a minor. In 1989 he took part in the musical A night at the cotton club , with Ruth Jacott and Denise Jannah , among others . In 1992 he successfully participated in the National Song Festival, the Dutch preliminary decision for the 1992 Eurovision Song Contest . With the song Wijs me de weg (in German Show me the way , written by Edwin Schimscheiner), he won by six points over the singer Laura Vlasblom. This made him the Dutch representative at the competition in which he came ninth. At both the national and international finals he appeared on the accordion with his brothers Carlo and Ben and the composer Edwin Schimscheiner. In the following year he accompanied Ruth Jacott at the Eurovision Song Contest 1993 .

Wijs me de weg should remain his most successful song, other songs by him could not place in the Dutch charts. Together with his brothers Carlo and Charles he formed the group CC Campbell for a short time from 1997 (after he had excelled as a producer in previous years) . An album - Souls in harmony - was released, but it did not make it into the charts. Only the singles My girl and Spread the news were able to enter the charts in 91st and 100th places respectively.

Humphrey Campbell was married to the singer Ruth Jacott until 2011. He is the uncle of the singer Raffaëlla Paton , who won the third season of Idols , the Dutch equivalent of Deutschland sucht den Superstar , in 2005.
