The first highlight of her career was winning the nationwide talent competition Cabaret of the Onbekenden in 1967 . In 1969 she represented the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest in Madrid with the song De troubadour . She performed the song in the style of the German singer Alexandra . After the points were awarded, she was tied with the Spaniard Salomé, the British Lulu and the French Frida Boccara in first place. This was the only time in the history of the competition that several titles shared the victory. For the Netherlands it was the third victory at this event. Subsequently she also recorded a number of titles in French.

In 1974, Kuhr married Gideon Bialijstock and converted to Judaism. Her two daughters, Sharon (* 1975) and Daphna (* 1980), who, like herself temporarily, live in Israel, come from this marriage. From 1981 to 1993 she was the life companion of the author Herman Pieter de Boer. She has been married to Rob Frank since 2003. She has a sister (Ine Kuhr) who has also sung several records as a singer.
