Grethe Ingmann (born June 17, 1938 as Grethe Clemmensen ; † August 18, 1990 ) was a Danish singer.

Career

She was discovered at the age of 17 when she helped out with a band and could be heard on the radio. Shortly afterwards she met the jazz guitarist Jørgen Ingmann , whom she married in 1956. As a duo, they soon made a name for themselves in Scandinavia.

Her husband made an international name for himself in 1961 with the instrumental Apache and she too entered the German charts in 1963 with Hello, Boy .

Their greatest mutual success came in 1963 when they first won the Danish qualification with Dansevise ("dance song") and then became the first Scandinavian interpreter to win the Eurovision Song Contest . The German version of the title was called Der Sommer went over .

In the mid-1960s, Grethe Ingmann also took part in the German Schlager Festival ( 1963 and 1965 ), but apart from a notable success for Der King von Soho , she was denied a breakthrough in Germany. The song Summer Wind with music by Henry Mayer and text by Hans Bradtke , with whom she unsuccessfully took at the Festival in 1965 and from which it for the record label Metronome grossed completed in German and a Danish version, was in 1966 in the English translation of Johnny Mercer , a World hit for Frank Sinatra .

Despite her failures at the Festival, she continued to make successful recordings with her husband in her home country Denmark and Scandinavia until the mid-1970s. But then their marriage failed and Jørgen and Grethe Ingmann divorced in 1975.

After that she also took part in the Danish Grand Prix qualifications several times, but narrowly missed participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, in 1979 only in the runoff election. She continued in show business until the 80s, before developing cancer in the late 80s and dying in 1990.
