Musical career

Teddy Scholten's career as a singer dates back to the 1940s when she enjoyed success in her home country as part of the duo Scholten & Van 't Zelfde . In 1945 she got engaged to Henk Scholten, whom she married a year later.

At the Dutch preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1959, in which the eight contributions were presented independently by two artists, one with a large and one with a small orchestra , she presented one version of the songs De regen and 'n Beetje . With the former she got the second and with 'n Beetje the first place. The jury preferred her as interpreter to John de Mol , who sang the second version of 'n Beetje .

She also emerged as the winner from the Eurovision Song Contest in Cannes in 1959 . With 21 points she took first place in front of the performers from the United Kingdom and France . The winning track, which was recorded in two Dutch versions, reached fourth place in the Dutch single charts. Teddy Scholten also recorded versions of the title in German ( Be Honest ), French ( Un p'tit peu ), Swedish ( Om våren ) and Italian ( Un poco ). The latter version reached 13th place in the Italian single charts.

After taking part in the competition, Teddy Scholten recorded a few more albums, primarily with cover versions of well-known children's songs.
