Jetty Paerl , with full name Henriëtte Nanette Bantzinger-Paerl (born May 27, 1921 in Amsterdam , † August 22, 2013 in Amstelveen ), was a Dutch singer. She celebrated her greatest successes in her home country in the 1940s and 1950s. She sang the very first entry in the Eurovision Song Contest .

Life

Paerl was during the Second World War by Radio Oranje known that from London into by the Nazis sent the occupied Netherlands. As Jetje van Radio Oranje, she took part in the station's program at the Cabaret de Watergeus .

In 1956 she took part in the first edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Lugano with Corry Brokken as the representative of the Netherlands . With the song De vogels van Holland, which was written by Annie MG Schmidt and composed by Cor Lemaire , she opened the hit competition. The exact performance of Paerl is not known, as only the winning song was determined. Today's usual point allocation and exact ranking of all participants did not exist back then.
