Waylon (* 20th April 1980 as Willem Bijkerk in Apeldoorn ) is a Dutch singer .

He represented the Netherlands as a solo artist at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon and came in 18th. In 2014 he took part in this music competition together with the singer Ilse DeLange as The Common Linnets and achieved second place.

He chose the stage name Waylon because the American country singer Waylon Jennings is one of his role models.

Career

In 2008 he took part in the Dutch TV show "Hollands Got Talent". During his audition he impressed with his interpretation of the song It's A Man's World by James Brown and Betty Jean Newsome. The jury was very enthusiastic and gave him a place in the final, where he ultimately took second place.

His first song Wicked Way was released on August 7, 2009, and later in August the album of the same name Wicked Ways was released .

In April 2010 he won his first award, a 3FM Award in the "Best Newcomer" category
