Maggie MacNeal
Maggie MacNeal (actually: Sjoukje Lucie van't Spijker ; born May 5, 1950 in Tilburg , Netherlands ) is a Dutch singer who was best known as a member of the duo Mouth & MacNeal .
biography
After a notable success with the single I Heard It Through the Grapevine , MacNeal formed the singing duo "Mouth & MacNeal" with singer Willem Duyn in 1971 , which had several international hits in the following years, including the title How Do You Do? and Hello-A . In 1974, as representatives of the Netherlands , they took third place in the Eurovision Song Contest with I See a Star .
Soon after, the duo separated and Maggie MacNeal took up a number of solo records from 1975, while Mouth and his new partner Ingrid Kup founded the duo "Big Mouth & Little Eve". Maggie MacNeal reached the Dutch top ten with the singles Terug naar de kust ("Back to the coast") and When You're Gone (later number 1 in Brazil). The fifth place at the Eurovision Song Contest 1980 with the title Amsterdam brought her international attention , which however had only moderate success in her home country with 33rd place.
After that, things calmed down around Maggie MacNeal, who in 2000 formed the group Dutch Divas with Marga Bult and Sandra Reemer , which currently - after Reemer's departure - only appears as a duo. Maggie MacNeal was married for 32 years to Frans Smit, a former drummer of the Brainbox group , who died in 2005 and who was involved in numerous of their solo records as a musician or co-author. A daughter was born in 1984.
