O'G3NE is a Dutch girl group . The trio represented the Netherlands with the song Lights and Shadows at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kiev and took eleventh place. The band name is made up of blood group 0 , which the three sisters inherited from their mother, and the genes that connect them.

Life and band history

Lisa (born June 21, 1994) and the twins Amy and Shelley Vol (born October 18, 1995) were born in Dordrecht and grew up in Fijnaart in the municipality of Moerdijk in North Brabant . In 2007 the sisters - at that time still simply called Lisa, Amy & Shelley - applied to the Junior Song Festival 2007, the Dutch preliminary decision for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2007 . They won both the semifinals and the final of the competition with the maximum number of points and thus received the right to start at the European final in Ahoy in Rotterdam . With the title Adem in, adem uit , the trio placed eleventh out of 17 participating countries . A year later, in June 2008, they released their first album together with 300% , which climbed to number 26 in the Dutch album charts . In 2011, the second album Sweet 16 was released , which also made it into the Dutch charts.

In 2014, the women first appeared as O'G3NE on the fifth season of the talent show The Voice of Holland . With the interpretation of the song Emotion by Destiny's Child (originally by Samantha Sang and the Bee Gees ) during the blind auditions, they were able to convince all coaches and decided on Marco Borsato's team . The trio made it to the final of the show and won it with 53.7 percent of the audience's votes. O'G3NE became the first band in the world to win a season of The Voice franchise. The final song Magic made it into the Nederlandse Top 40 and received a gold record for 15,000 downloads . Further single releases were less successful.

In 2016 the sisters took part in De Beste zangers van Nederland , the model for Sing mein Song . Their first album under a new band name was released at the end of September 2016. We Got This reached first place in the Dutch album charts after its release and was awarded a gold record in 2017. On October 29, 2016, the Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS announced that O'G3NE would represent the Netherlands in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest. Lights and Shadows , written by her father Rick Vol and Rory de Kievit, was published on March 3, 2017 . The song pays homage to her mother, who by then had suffered from the rare cancer osteosarcoma for several years . On May 11, 2017, the band took part in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 and qualified for the final two days later at the International Exhibition Center in Kiev. O'G3NE achieved eleventh place among 26 participating countries with 150 points.

Her mother passed away on July 12, 2017. They then withdrew from the public for the time being. On October 12, 2017 they released their new song But I Do during the Gouden Televizier-Ring Gala 2017.

In the late summer of 2017, the band started the Three Times A Lady tour through the Netherlands.
