Guadalupe is a municipality in the Mexican state of Zacatecas . The municipality covers an area of ​​819 km². In 2010, Guadalupe had a population of 159,991 people. The administrative seat and most populous place of the municipality is Guadalupe of the same name .

Guadalupe is the second largest municipality in the state in terms of inhabitants and, before Zacatecas and Morelos, the largest of the three municipalities that make up the Zona Metropolitana de Zacatecas .

The municipality of Guadalupe is located east of the center of the state of Zacatecas at an altitude between 200  m and 2800  m . Half of it is part of the physiographic provinces of the Sierra Madre Occidental and the Mesa del Centro . 86% of the municipality are in the hydrographic region of El Salado , the rest drains into the Pacific via the Río Lerma . Geologically, the municipality area is dominated by alluvial soil (58.5%), almost a quarter of the municipality is occupied by extrusive rock , especially tuff . The predominant soil types are Kastanozem , Leptosol and Calcisol, each with between 23 and 27% of the municipal area . More than 55% of the community area is used for arable farming, a good 30% is covered by undergrowth.

The municipality of Guadalupe borders the municipalities General Pánfilo Natera , Trancoso , Ojocaliente , Genaro Codina , Zacatecas , Vetagrande , Pánuco and Villa de Cos as well as the state of San Luis Potosí .

In the 2010 census, 159,991 people were counted in 41,083 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 604 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 119 speakers of the Náhuatl and 64 speakers of the Huichol . A little over 2.5% of the population was illiterate. 65,601 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 63% were men and just under 4% were unemployed. Just under four percent of the population lived in extreme poverty.
