Ruth Jacott (born September 2, 1960 in Paramaribo , Suriname ) is a Dutch singer .

Life

Born in Suriname, she came to the Netherlands with her family when she was nine. She became a singer in various bands and took part in the first singing competitions. In 1988 she won the Festival de Knokke in Belgium . She then received offers for musical productions such as Cats and A Night at the Cotton Club and toured the Netherlands and neighboring countries with them.

She represented the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest 1993 in Millstreet . Her pop song Vrede reached sixth place there. Her debut album was released in the same year. Further albums and numerous singles were able to place themselves in the Dutch charts. From the year 2000 she could be seen again on theater and musical stages. In 2008 she played Billie Holiday in a musical of the same name. She received the best vrouwelijke hoofdrol in een kleine musical (best female lead in a small musical).

From 2011 to 2012 she has her own show with cover songs, Simply the Best .
