Françoise Grossetête
Françoise Grossetête (born May 17, 1946 in Lyon ) is a French politician ( UDF , DL , UMP , Les Républicains ). She was a member of the European Parliament from 1994 to 2019 .
Life
Grossetête studied law and political science in Lyon. From 1969 to 1975 she worked as a university lecturer in law.
She began her political career in the Parti républicain (PR), whose association in the Loire department she headed from 1984 to 1994. From 1983 to 1995 Grossetête was a member of the city council of Saint-Étienne . From 1986 to 1998 she was a member of the Rhône-Alpes Regional Council . From 1989 to 2008 she was President of the Pilat Regional Nature Park and Vice President of the National Association of Regional Nature Parks in France.
Grossetête was a member of the European Parliament from 1994 . The Démocratie Libérale (DL) emerged from PR in 1997 . Grossetête was a member of the party executive and was national secretary for equal opportunities until 1998. Then she was deputy party chairman until the DL in 2002 in the center-right collecting party Union pour un mouvement populaire (UMP). She then belonged to the national party secretariat and was deputy chairman of the UMP in the Loire department.
Grossetête was from 1995 to 2001 associate associate of the mayor of Saint-Étienne with responsibility for the district of Saint-Victor-sur-Loire, from 2001 to 2008 second alderman of the mayor of Saint-Étienne. From 2010 to 2015 she was again a member of the Regional Council of Rhône-Alpes. For the European elections in 2019 it has not raced for more, but declared their support for the party of the president Emmanuel Macron , La République en Marche . With her own party (which had since been renamed Les Républicains ), she no longer agreed on European issues.
Activities as an EU parliamentarian
Grossetête was a member of the European Parliament for five legislative terms. She was a member of the Group of the European People's Party and served on the Group Bureau from 1997 to 1999, from 1999 to 2007 and again from 2014 to 2019 she was deputy group leader of the EPP.
From 1994 to 2019 she was a member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (formerly the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Consumer Protection), from 1994 to 2004 a delegate in the EU-Cyprus joint parliamentary committee, and from 2004 to 2009 a delegate in the European Parliamentary Assembly. Mediterranean , 2009 to 2014 delegate for relations with the countries of Central America and in the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly, 2014 to 2019 delegate in the EU-Russia parliamentary cooperation committee and in 2016/17 a member of the committee of inquiry into emission measurements in the automotive industry .
