EMIS (European Parliament)

On December 17, 2015, the European Parliament decided to set up the EMIS Committee of Inquiry to investigate the emissions scandal at European level. The abbreviation of the name stands in German for "emission measurements in the automotive industry".

The committee chair is the Belgian Kathleen Van Brempt ( Group of the Progressive Alliance of Social Democrats in the European Parliament ). Coordinators are Arturs Krišjānis Kariņš , Jens Gieseke , Seb Dance , Hans-Olaf Henkel , Fredrick Federley , Merja Kyllönen , Bas Eickhout , Eleonora Evi , Marcus Pretzell . Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy and Pablo Zalba Bidegain report to Parliament .

The committee heard over 50 witnesses from academia, politics and industry. The committee is supposed to uncover possible misconduct in the European Union in particular in the application of regulation 715/2007, which represents the core of the current exhaust gas legislation in the EU, and to point out strategies for future exhaust standards and approval procedures. The sessions with the hearings are available online. The main meeting venues are the József Antall and Altiero Spinelli buildings of the European Parliament in Brussels .
