Merja Sinikka Kyllönen (born January 25, 1977 in Suomussalmi ) is a Finnish politician ( left alliance ).

Kyllönen was elected to the Finnish Parliament in 2007 in the constituency of Oulu . Before that, after completing her studies in Oulu , which she completed as a qualified bioanalyst, she was a local councilor in Suomussalmi from 2000 and a regional member of Kainuu from 2004 . After the parliamentary elections in Finland in 2011, she held the post of Minister of Transport in the Katainen cabinet . In March 2014, the left alliance announced its withdrawal from the government in protest against the austerity measures of the coalition partners. Kyllönen officially retained the ministerial post until April 4, 2014.

In the 2014 European elections , Kyllönen was elected to the European Parliament .

Kyllönen writes poems which she publishes on her homepage.
