3JS is a Dutch pop group. The band , founded in 2002, consists of the members Jan Dulles, Jaap Kwakmann and Jaap de Witte. The group had their artistic breakthrough in the Netherlands with their debut album Watermensen , released in 2007 in the style of the paling sound . In 2011 they represented their home country at the 56th Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf .
Band history
The singer Jan Dulles (actually Jan Keuken) and the guitarists Jaap Kwakman and Jaap de Witte (actually Jaap Schilder) all come from Volendam , a center of the Dutch music industry. After the musicians had already gained musical experience in various bands, they first appeared in 2002 under the band name 3JS. The band name goes back to the identical first letters of their first names. The band released their first studio album in 2007 under the title Watermensen . The album reached number six in the Dutch Top 100 album charts. In the summer of the year, the group appeared for eight weeks in the docu-soap 3JS komen eraan on the local broadcaster RTV Noord-Holland and in September had a guest appearance on Jan Smit's show , which made them known to a larger audience. Her debut album received an award from the Stichting Nederlandse Muziek in early 2008 and also received the Zilveren Harp award .
The band's other albums are Kamers van m'n hart from 2008 and Dromers en dwazen from 2010, which, like Watermensen , achieved gold status in the Netherlands . For the album Dromers en dwazen they also got the Edison Publieksprijs . In July 2010, the Dutch television broadcaster TROS announced that it would send the band 3JS to Germany as a national participant in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest. In a national preliminary decision on January 30, 2011, the group presented five of their songs to the audience, who together with a jury (50% each) determined the winning title Je vecht nooit alleen .
On May 12, 2011, the formation interpreted the title in English ( Never Alone ) in the second ESC semi-final in Düsseldorf, but could not qualify for the final round. As it became known after the final, they finished last in the semi-finals.
In 2012 3JS released their next studio album 4 Elements . Like its predecessor, it reached number 3 on the album charts. Then the compilation album Totzoverder - Het beste van 3JS was released , in which the titles had been selected by the fans of the band. It was released in April 2013. At the same time it became known that Jaap de Witte could no longer play with the band. His son Jan de Witte took his place as the band's guitarist. With him, the fifth studio album Dichter bij de horizon was recorded, which appeared in the same year and continued the series of number 3 albums.
