Heddy Lester (born June 18, 1950 ; actually Heddy Affolter ) is a Dutch singer and actress .

Career

After dropping out of her studies at the “Amsterdamse Toneelschool & Kleinkunstacademie”, she and Gert Balke formed the April Shower duo , with whom she had two smaller hits in her home country at the beginning of the 1970s. During her performances, she met the Dutch chansonnier Ramses Shaffy , with whom she performed regularly during the 1970s.

In 1977 she represented the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest with the title De Mallemolen, written by her younger brother Frank Affolter , and reached twelfth place. In collaboration with her brother and the text writer Wim Hogenkamp , a number of solo programs were created in the following years.

From 1987 Lester worked as a stage actress. Among other things, she played with the Toneelgroep de Appel under the direction of Erik Vos in the play Ghetto by Joshua Sobol and for three seasons in The Trojans by Euripides . In 2005 she was on stage in a production of Lorca's Blood Wedding and in the 2006/07 season in The Silent Power of Louis Couperus . She has also played in the musicals Anatevka , That's Life , Alleen Op De Wereld , Potasch en Perlemoer and Life Is A Cabaret . In 1991 she took on a leading role in the award-winning feature film De tranen van Maria Machita by director Paul Ruven .

On May 4, 2007, she performed the world premiere of 10 Duizend zakdoeken , a tribute to her parents, who both survived the concentration camp during World War II. From September 2007 she played in the musical Fame .

Awards

For her first solo program, Lester was awarded the Pall Mall Export Prize in 1980.
