Jan Smit
Johannes Hendricus Maria "Jan" Smit (born December 31, 1985 in Volendam / Edam-Volendam , North Holland ) is a Dutch singer . Since 2015 he has been part of the Klubbb3 hit trio .
Act
Jan Smit became known nationwide in 1997 with his number 1 hit Ik zing dit lied voor jou alleen ("I sing this song for you alone"), a cover version of the Andrea Jürgens title I show you my paradise , then still under the Name Jantje Smit . In addition to the Netherlands, Jan Smit is also successful in Germany , Austria , Switzerland , Belgium and France . Eleven albums have now been released in Germany. In 2001 Smit received the export award for best selling Dutch player abroad. In the Netherlands he received several awards, including the Golden Televizier ring for his own real-life soap , which can also be seen in Germany. The second series of the soap Gewoon Jan Smit (“Einfach Jan Smit”) is currently running . On March 16, 2006, he opened his own fashion store in Volendam called J-Style , which he closed again in 2011 due to a lack of sales. His manager Jaap Buijs († June 28, 2015 in Amsterdam , Netherlands ) announced that all clothes can still be bought online and in all C&A stores.
His early works are stylistically reminiscent of those of Heintje , whereas his present ones are more reminiscent of Roger Whittaker's . He also met once as Marika-Rokk - impersonator on.
The song for the 2014 World Cup for the Dutch national team is from him.
In 2015 he founded the band Klubbb3 with Florian Silbereisen and Christoff De Bolle . In February 2017 he also became a member of the band De Toppers .
In 2020 Smit was to moderate the Eurovision Song Contest together with Chantal Janzen and Edsilia Rombley . On March 18, 2020, the competition was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic . Jan Smit moderated the ESC replacement show "Europe Shine A Light" on May 16, 2020 in Hilversum.

social commitment
As part of his social commitment, Jan Smit became the first Dutch singer of his age group to commit himself to the German Cancer Aid in 2013 in the ZDF charity gala Willkommen bei Carmen Nebel , which raised over 2.6 million euros in donations. Smit performed in a duet with the Irish - American singer Maite Kelly , who lives in the Federal Republic and acts as an ambassador for cancer aid.
