Haddy Jatou N'jie (born June 25, 1979 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian singer , songwriter , author, journalist and television presenter .

biography

Haddy N'jie was born in 1979 (according to other sources in 1977) to a Gambian father and a Norwegian mother. She grew up with four younger siblings in Kolbotn, near Oslo , and devoted herself to ballet. Her sister Lisa Aisato N'jie Solberg (* 1981) is an illustrator and children's book author. As a teenager she suffered from depression and published her first novel at the age of 16. From 1995 to 1998 Haddy N'jie attended the private high school in Oslo and then switched to the Oslo University of Applied Sciences , where she trained as a journalist.

In December 2000, N'jie said he came into contact with singing from a roommate while staying in Granada , Spain. In Norway, she then joined the comedy group Queendom to overcome her stage fright. The group consists of five women with an African background. In addition, she worked as a journalist for the television news Dagsrevyen of the Norwegian state broadcaster NRK and published her first solo album as a singer with White Lies (2005), for which she also wrote the songs. She remained loyal to the theater work with Queendom , which was devoted to social satires . On the side, after a failed career as a television announcer at NRK, she earned her living as a freelancer for various magazines. In the summer of 2007 she put her own band together, A Few Good Men , with whom she recorded her second album Welcome Home .

At the same time, N'jie became a columnist for the Norwegian daily Dagbladet . In her articles she openly addresses her own fears and psychological problems. In 2008 he worked on the self-written play Jeg vet hvorfor as well as the two books Oppdrag Norge (with the Queendom group) and the children's book Dans, dans! (together with Lamin Chorr Nielsen). In 2009 N'jie hosted the annual fundraising program TV-Aksjonen for NRK . In 2010 she released her third album, World Of The Free . In the same year she hosted the 55th Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo together with Erik Solbakken and Nadia Hasnaoui .

On August 21, 2011, she acted as a presenter on the television broadcast of a central memorial service for the dead of the 2011 attacks in Norway .
