Angela Rippon , CBE (born October 12, 1944 in Plymouth ) is an English news anchor and television presenter .

Rippon, who began her career as a BBC reporter, became the first regular news anchor for Nine O'Clock News on BBC One in 1975 . She stayed there until the early 1980s, and has since appeared in a variety of entertainment programs and television magazines. She hosted Top Gear , Come Dancing , The Big Breakfast and the Antiques Roadshow , among others . She moderated the Eurovision Song Contest in 1977 .

In 2011 she took part in the sixth season of the figure skating show Dancing on Ice .

In 2004, Queen Elizabeth II made her an officer in the Order of the British Empire . In the course of the New Year Honors 2017, Rippon was named Commander of the Order of the British Empire by the British Queen .
