Eldar Qasımov (born June 4, 1989 in Baku ) is an Azerbaijani singer.

life and career

Qasımov was born on June 4, 1989 in Baku to an Azerbaijani family. However, his grandmother had Tatar roots.

Qasımov began studying piano in his hometown of Baku in 2001. In 2004 and 2008 he received scholarships, including a 2008 summer course scholarship from the DAAD , which took him to Germany . There he studied singing and acting. In addition, he completed a degree in International Relations at the Bakı Universiteti Slavyan off in his hometown. He is currently completing his master’s degree . Eldar Qasımov is fluent in German, English and Russian.

In 2011 he won the Azerbaijani preliminary round Milli seçim turu together with Nigar Camal . In the same year both represented their home country under the duet name " Ell & Nikki " at the 56th Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf . On May 10, 2011, they presented their English-language ballad Running Scared in the first ESC semifinals, where they made it into the final four days later. There they won with 221 points ahead of Raphael Gualazzi from Italy (189 points) and the Swede Eric Saade (185).

Together with Leyla Əliyeva and Nargiz Birk-Petersen , he presented the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku .
