Fionnuala Sweeney

Fionnuala Sweeney [ ˈfɪn̪ʊəɫə swiːniː ] (* 1965 in Belfast ) is an Irish television presenter and reporter for CNN . She moderates World One from the CNN Center in Atlanta (USA), previously she reported from London and moderated the programs World News Europe and International Correspondents .

Fionnuala Sweeney was born into a Roman Catholic family in Belfast, Northern Ireland , and lived there until she was twelve when she and her family moved to Dublin . Before moving, she attended St. Dominic's High School, after which she went to Alexandra College in Milltown, Dublin. Sweeney later studied journalism at the National Institute for Higher Education . She spent five years as a television journalist for the Irish broadcaster RTÉ .

She became known for hosting the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest , which was seen by 350 million people. In the same year she moved to CNN. She worked there at the Atlanta headquarters as a writer and presenter, was transferred back to London and worked from now on as a full-time presenter. She also reported often as a correspondent from the Middle East, for example during Ariel Sharon’s hospital stay .
