The 38th Eurovision Song Contest took place on May 15, 1993 at the Green Glens Arena in Millstreet , County Cork , Ireland . Ireland won for the second time in a row with In Your Eyes .

particularities

For Germany, the Münchener Freiheit group took part with the title Much Too Far , which ended up in 18th place. Austria's contribution Maria Magdalena, which was again presented by Tony Wegas , achieved 14th place with a top rating from Bosnia-Herzegovina. With Annie Cotton , a Canadian competed for Switzerland for the second time after Celine Dion in 1988 . The then 17-year-old singer came in third place with Moi, tout simplement , the best ranking of the Swiss since then. The conductor was Marc Sorrentino. Annie Cotton was the second youngest singer of the evening behind the then sixteen-year-old Silje Vige from Norway.

Before the Eurovision Song Contest 1994 it was announced that places 1 to 19 of this year meant qualification for participation in the next year.

Attendees

After the fall of the Berlin Wall and the opening of the Iron Curtain in 1989, a preliminary decision was made for the newly added Eastern European countries. The first three got a starting place in Millstreet . All countries from the previous year started again - except Yugoslavia , which had split up into its individual republics and was no longer allowed to start.

The following performers returned to the competition:
