The 15th Eurovision Young Dancers took place on December 16, 2017 in Prague . As in 2015 , the organizer was the Czech Republic. The competition was won for the third time and for the second time in a row by Poland. As in 2015, Slovenia came second.
venue
Malta was originally selected as the venue for the competition on July 7, 2015. However, on January 24, 2017, Maltese television PBS canceled the hosting for unknown reasons. On June 22nd, 2017, however, it was announced that the event will take place in Prague in the Forum Hall of Prague Congress Center and that the Czech TV broadcaster ČT will be hosting it.
format
The format consists of mostly non-professional dancers between the ages of 16 and 21 who present their skills to the jury in a dance of their choice. For this purpose, the dance is usually determined with the support of a choreographer. Two of the participants will then be selected for the final, where each will again perform a 90-second dance.
jury
In November 2017, the EBU announced the three jury members who will ultimately decide the outcome of the competition. It consists of professional dancers who must come from different genres. The jury consisted of the following people:
- Itzik Galili (Israel)
- Ambra Succi (Sweden)
- Daria Klimentová (Czech Republic)
Moderation
As in 2015, Libor Bouček moderated the event. Angeé Klára Svobodová acted as moderator in the Greenroom .
Attendees
countries
Members of the EBU could still register for the event until July 15, 2017. Albania, the Netherlands and Slovakia are withdrawing from the competition for reasons unknown. However, Portugal took part again. In total, only eight countries took part, making it the smallest EYD of all time. In addition, the rules actually state that at least ten countries must take part for the event to take place at all. Apparently, this rule only applies on paper.
Returning participants
The Slovenian dancer Patricija Crnkovič already took part in the EYD for Slovenia in 2013 . However, she did not reach the final duel .
