The Eurovision Young Dancers is a dance competition that takes place every two years . It is organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Solo dancers between the ages of 16 and 21 can take part in the competition. A solo and a group dance will be assessed. The two best dancers compete against each other in the final.

In contrast to the Eurovision Song Contest and Junior Eurovision Song Contest , an international jury of experts decides at the Eurovision Young Dancers .

Overview of the events

The competition has been held regularly since 1985. Only in 2007, 2009 and 2019 did the competition not take place.

1In 1989 there were two winners as France won the Contemporary Dance category and the United Kingdom won the Ballet category .
2In 2003 there were three winners, as Sweden won the Modern Dance category , the Czech Republic won the Youth Jury Choice and Ukraine won the Ballet category .

  • In order to be able to participate in the EYD, the participating broadcaster must be part of the EBU . Since 1985 a total of 37 countries have participated in the EYD. Sweden has the most participation with a total of 15. Sweden is also the only country that has participated in every edition of the EYD. Canada is a special case here, as it is the only North American country that has ever participated in a Eurovision event. All 37 participants are shown in the following overview. The unmarked countries are active participants. The marked participants, however, are inactive participants.

  • In contrast to the Eurovision Song Contest, the EYD will be decided through an application procedure from the EBU. In total, the 15 editions of the EYM took place in 11 different countries. Most often, Poland hosted the competition with a total of three times. The Czech Republic hosted the competition in 2015 and 2017, making it the only country to host the competition twice in a row.
