The 29th Concours Eurovision de la Chanson , the official title this year, took place on May 5, 1984 in the Théâtre Municipal (Municipal Theater) in Luxembourg . After Israel and Greece canceled their participation, only 19 nations took part.

The winners were the Herrey brothers with Diggi-loo Diggy-ley . The Swedish song about golden shoes landed in front of the Irish contribution Terminal 3, which Johnny Logan wrote for Linda Martin .

particularities

The German-language titles had little success this year: Mary Roos with the title Aufrecht geht'n by Michael Reinecke and Michael Kunze for Germany reached 13th place, What color is the sunshine? from the group Rainy Day took 16th place for Switzerland, Anita with the song Easy Away for Austria landed in last place.

Désirée Nosbusch , who was nineteen at the time, is still the youngest presenter of the competition.

Diggi-loo Diggy-ley was originally just the working title of the later winning song when there was no text for the composition. As an onomatopoeic expression of a good mood, this sequence of words should be retained in the chorus, but the title itself should be called “In golden shoes” (German equivalent: “On cloud seven”). Inadvertently, however, the song was submitted to the competition under its working title, which was particularly regrettable for lyricist Britt Lindeborg, who had to take heavy criticism for the title, which was in itself nonsensical.
