The 3rd Junior Eurovision Song Contest , an international music competition of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for young singers aged 8 to 15, because they were not allowed to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest for reasons of age , took place on November 26, 2005 at Belgian Hasselt.

On November 26, 2005, the event was broadcast live from the Ethias Arena in Hasselt , Belgium , in a co-production of the Dutch- and French-speaking Belgian public broadcasters ( VRT and RTBF ) and the European Broadcasting Union . Marcel Vanthilt and Maureen Louys moderated . Ksenia Sitnik from Belarus won the competition with the title My vmeste (“We are together”) sung in Russian .

The show was broadcast live in the participating countries and could be seen worldwide via satellite. The Australian television broadcaster SBS acquired the rights to air the program a month later.

Originally 17 countries planned to take part, but on October 13th the Cypriot broadcaster CyBC announced that it would withdraw for internal reasons - allegations of plagiarism had been raised regarding the selected song. However, this did not affect Cyprus' participation in the telephone vote .

  • The public broadcasters from Switzerland and Poland did not take part for financial reasons and, like France , which withdrew due to internal restructuring, did not return to the JESC. Russia and Serbia and Montenegro were represented at the JESC for the first time in 2005. The Ukraine , Lithuania and Georgia were also interested in a debut, but took in 2006 and 2007, in part. Georgia missed the registration deadline. Monaco is also said to have been interested in the competition.

    The show was broadcast not only in the participating countries, but also worldwide via satellite and on the Australian channel SBS , which also broadcasts the ESC, but only a month later.

    The theme of the show was Let's Get Loud (" Let's get loud!"), Which is a new generation on stage. 8,500 people followed the event in the hall, including the Belgian Prince Laurent . 20 to 25 million people in Europe watched live on television.

    The show opened with fireworks and bungee jumpers . Young Vladik Myagkostupov from the famous Cirque du Soleil made a four-minute surprise appearance during the telephone vote . During the counting of votes, the winner of the singing Junior Euro Vision Song Contest 2004 , María Isabel from Spain, a medley of their winning entry and some songs from her newly released album. She also presented the prize to the winner of the competition.
