The 20th Eurovision Young Musicians was scheduled to take place on June 21, 2020 at König Tomislav Square in Zagreb , Croatia . It should be the first time HRT has hosted a Eurovision competition, the first time Croatia has hosted an EYM and the first time since the Eurovision Song Contest in 1990 that a Eurovision competition has been held in Zagreb. However, since Croatia was still part of Yugoslavia at the time, it was to be the first time that Croatia as a sovereign state hosted a Eurovision event.

The competition should also be part of the Fête de la Musique , which traditionally takes place on June 21st. On March 19, 2020, the EBU and HRT announced that the competition would be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic . Planning will therefore continue, but there will be a new date for the event only after the end of the pandemic.

venue

On July 8, 2019, the EBU announced that the 2020 competition will take place in Zagreb . The broadcaster HRT chose König-Tomislav-Platz as the venue, which means that Eurovision Young Musicians should be held as an open-air event for the first time since 2016 .

format

So far, the EBU has only announced a date for the final. The EBU will only announce at a later date whether two semi-finals will take place again, as in 2018, and what the format of the event will be.

Attendees

  • Countries that have already selected their participant
  • Countries that have confirmed their participation
  • Countries that have participated in the past but not in 2020
  • A total of eleven countries should take part in 2020, which is seven fewer countries than in 2018. Albania, Belgium, Israel, Russia, San Marino, Spain, Hungary and the United Kingdom, which still served as hosts in 2018, withdrew from the competition for reasons unknown . Ukraine, on the other hand, was due to take part in the competition for the first time since 2012 . It should be only the third participation of the country in the competition. Since only eleven countries take part, this is the lowest number of participants since 2016. Only in 1982 and 1984 fewer countries took part.

    final

The final should take place on June 21, 2020.
