The 12th Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place on November 15, 2014 in Marsa on the island of Malta. It was the third time in total and the second time in a row that the previous year's winner held the competition, as Gaia Cauchi won for Malta in 2013 with The Start . The host broadcaster was PBS .
Italy won the competition for the first time with Vincenzo Cantiello and the song Tu primo grande amore .
venue
On December 18, 2013, the hosting television broadcaster Public Broadcasting Services (PBS) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) confirmed that Malta would host the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014. The event will not be held in a specific city, but on the island of Malta. Malta hosted one of the Eurovision events for the first time .
In the former shipyard there were around 800 standing places and up to 4500 seats.

According to a rule change, from this year the contributions could not be published before May 1st of the respective year. In addition, it was agreed that not, as in 2013, places 1–3, but only the winner will receive his trophy on stage. Second and third place will then be honored at the press conference after the show. Online voting was also planned, but this should not have any influence on the result of the JESC. Due to the high usage of the voting page, it was overloaded and the online voting could not take place.
For the first time in the history of the JESC, there was no host city in the true sense of the word, but a host island , i.e. all of Malta.
Children from 16 different schools were involved in the event. Each school was responsible for a participating country.
With Moira Delia, a well-known TV personality presented the show. She was the first solo presenter in JESC history.
After its last participation in 2009, Cyprus participated again in 2014, as did Bulgaria, which last participated in 2011, and Serbia, which returned after a three-year break. Croatia returned to the competition as the very first JESC winner in seven years. All four countries did not take part in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest for financial reasons . Italy took part for the first time after its small neighbor San Marino made its debut in 2013. The Balkan states of Montenegro and Slovenia also made their JESC debut in Marsa.
After finishing last in 2013, Macedonia canceled its participation for 2014. Azerbaijan and Moldova did not want to return either. The following sixteen countries took part in the competition:
