Radiotelevizija Slovenija ( RTV SLO ; German: Slovenian Broadcasting ) is the public broadcaster in Slovenia .

history

The first radio program Radio Ljubljana was first broadcast on 28 October 1928 the first television program on 28 November 1958. While the membership of Slovenia to Yugoslavia was the Slovenian broadcaster under the name Radiotelevizija Ljubljana in the former system of the Yugoslav Radio ( Jugoslovenska Radiotelevizija , JRT ) integrated (see radio and television in Yugoslavia ), similar to the federal structure of ARD in Germany. Since the independence of Slovenia in 1991, RTV SLO has existed in its current form. The name until 1990 was Radio Televizija Ljubljana . The seat is in Ljubljana . There are also studios in Maribor and Koper , and these studios also produce programs or broadcasts for the Hungarian and Italian minorities in Slovenia in the corresponding languages.

Broadcasting regulation and financing

The radio company is based on the Radio and Television Act in Slovenia. Article 17 determines the composition of the program. This consists of 29 members. The following composition consists of:

• 1 member from the Hungarian minority of Slovenia
• 1 member from the Italian minority of Slovenia
• 1 member from the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts
• 3 members from the employees of the media company
• 2 members are sent by the Slovenian President on behalf of the religious groups
• 5 members through the parties represented in the Slovenian Parliament
• 16 members are appointed by parliament, representing civil society groups (artistic, journalistic, scientific organizations)

RTV SLO is financed by license fees, advertising revenue and the sale of services and programs.

Radio programs

The three purely Slovenian-language radio programs are:

• Prvi (German first), formerly Radio Slovenija 1 (SLO 1) - news, information, politics, economy, society
• VAL202 (German wave 202) - leisure, service, traffic, sport, entertainment
• ARS - culture, science

In parallel to the regional television programs mentioned above, there are also two corresponding regional radio programs, Radio Maribor and Radio Koper / Capodistria .

In addition, there is the radio program Radio SI (SI as an abbreviation for "Slovenia International"). This program is produced in Maribor and can be received throughout Slovenia. It is primarily aimed at foreigners staying in Slovenia. Accordingly, there are news programs, service programs for vacationers and the like. in German and English, but also, for example, German-language traffic reports from the ÖAMTC in Graz , which relate to the entire Alps-Adriatic region.

Television programs

There are currently three nationwide, purely Slovenian-language television programs: TV SLO 1 , TV SLO 2 and TV SLO 3 . The latter program was only introduced at the beginning of 2008 with the digitization of the transmission channels and is designed as a parliamentary channel (parlamentarni program) .

In addition, there are regionally limited TV programs from Maribor ( Tele M , partly in Hungarian) in Lower Styria and the Übermur area , as well as in the coastal region the program from Koper ( TV Koper-Capodistria ), the latter mainly offering Italian-language programs. Since the switch to DVB-T, however, their transmission areas have increased significantly.

The television program TV SLO 1 and also TV Maribor repeat the program “Dober dan, Koroška” produced in Austria by the ORF regional studio Carinthia on Mondays , which is aimed at the Slovenian-speaking minority in Carinthia and is broadcast there on ORF 2 Carinthia on Sundays .

Since November 2013, TV Slovenija 1 and 2 have been broadcasting terrestrially in the first nationwide multiplex (Mux A), also in HDTV .

Reception outside Slovenia

Slovenia sends since 2011 only digital terrestrial television DVB-T , but with the MPEG-4 standard is used, while in the neighboring countries of Austria, Croatia and Italy MPEG-2 comes standard applies. In these neighboring countries it is therefore not possible to receive digital Slovenian television with terminals that can only process the MPEG-2 standard that is common there.

The three national programs of RTV SLO can be received throughout Europe since October 2013 via the Eutelsat satellite at 16.0 ° East, frequency 10.721 GHz, horizontal polarization. There is also a fully encrypted broadcast over 16.0 ° East, which is only aimed at Total TV's domestic subscribers.

TV Koper Capodistria can be received vertically via Hotbird 13.0 ° East, frequency 12.520 GHz.

In addition, live streams and a media library are available over the Internet .

Programs for which RTV SLO has only acquired the broadcasting rights for Slovenia (e.g. for films or sports broadcasts) are broadcast in encrypted form via satellite. The decryption card can be purchased by every citizen of Slovenia and by members of Slovenian-speaking minorities in the neighboring countries. Such programs are then also not accessible via the Internet.

The first television and radio program in Austria is fed into many cable networks in the federal states of Styria and Carinthia (e.g. UPC Telekabel in Graz and Klagenfurt ).

In Friuli the Italian-language programs of TV Koper-Capodistria are often available.

RTV Slovenija could be received on the medium wave frequency 918 kHz beyond the national borders. On September 4, 2017, the broadcasts were stopped for cost reasons. Furthermore, Radio Capodistria is broadcast on the frequency 1170 kHz.
