Radio SI (originally Radio Slovenia International ) is a foreign language program for foreign travelers in Slovenia and Slovenes with foreign language interests. The legal basis are the provisions of § 27 of the Law on RTV Slovenia (ZRTVS-1, Ur 96/05.) And dependent statutes and regulations. The Board of Directors consists of representatives from the National Assembly, the government and the Slovenian ministries and institutions responsible for culture. The station is based in Maribor .

history

The roots of today's program lie in the previous program Radio MM2 , which was founded by RTV Maribor as a German-speaking holiday radio in 1982 or 1984. It started its operation on 102.8 MHz from transmitter in Pohorje (then 0.5 kW, from 1987 10 kW, today 8 kW)> and offered listeners in southern Styria as an alternative to the ORF monopoly. According to the Austrian regulatory authority KommAustria (RTR), one of the broadcaster's objectives was to siphon off advertising money from neighboring Styria “via overspill.” This cooled the relationship between the EBU partners ORF and RTV and led ORF to found Ö3 Styria only 0.1 MHz next to the MM2 frequency. Later the name was Slovenski Touricni Radio (STR), then Radio Maribor International (RMI). Later, the Slovenian media legislation led to the establishment of the non-commercial, public service successor program Radio Slovenia International RSI. Further VHF transmitters were only added around the turn of the century, most of them as small transmitters below 1 kW.

program

The program is not an international service , but is aimed in Slovenian , English and German for holidaymakers and business travelers staying in Slovenia. In addition, Slovenes who are interested in the English or German language are addressed. The program is not segmented into the different language versions, but rather broadcasts an audible music program, the verbal contributions of which are broadcast in parallel in several languages (e.g. Slovenian introduction and a German-language interview).

A 24-hour music and information program is broadcast. The music share is around 85 percent and consists of international and Slovenian music, the verbal contributions include information from politics, culture, business and sport.

reception

The international program can be received almost nationwide in Slovenia via around 20 FM stations , and it is planned to expand it to areas with poor coverage. There is also a live stream on the Internet. The transmitter makes no statement about the feed into the cable networks. Parts of the program that were broadcast by Slovenija 1 could also be received in Germany until around 2014 via its medium wave transmitter on 918 kHz with 300 kW from Domžale , and currently still in the night hours on the medium wave frequency 1170 kHz (in timeshare with Radio Capodistria , Beli Križ transmitter with 10 kW). In addition, the entire program is broadcast via Eutelsat .

The program has been broadcast in the national DAB-plus ensemble on channel 10D since September 2016 . Selected contributions are available as podcasts via newsfeed or via the broadcaster's homepage .
