The second Eurovision Dance Contest took place on September 6th, 2008 in Glasgow , United Kingdom . 14 countries participated. The Polish dance couple around Edyta Herbuś and Marcin Mroczek won with 154 points.
The only German-speaking pair of participants came from Austria and took the penultimate place. Germany and Switzerland withdrew after only one participation.
New rules
There were three major innovations compared to the first edition. In principle, it was no longer allowed to send a dance couple consisting of two professionals into the competition, whereby each couple had to include a nationally known personality. Furthermore, each couple only performed one dance. In addition, the broadcasters were given the stipulation to allow a jury with a voting weight of 20 percent to participate in the assessment.
Regardless of the new rules, Greece and Azerbaijan each competed with two professional dancers.
National qualification
Ireland
The Irish identified their dance couple on May 30, 2008 as part of the Late Late Show , in which the Irish entries for the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 and 2007 had already been nominated. The winner of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest also performed in the same show . Pat Kenny hosted the show.
Austria
The Austrian preliminary decision on June 6, 2008, contested eight couples, including the singer and actress Simone Stelzer , who represented her country at the 1990 Eurovision Song Contest . Dorian Steidl and his partner Nicole Kuntner prevailed with Dancing Star .

- Germany
In Germany, the WDR was responsible for organizing the preliminary decision. However, the broadcaster announced in June 2008 that due to “the rather modest success in the Federal Republic” it would not participate. The event had only low ratings in the previous year. It was therefore not broadcast on German television this year.
- Switzerland
The Switzerland also withdrew from the Euro Vision Dance Contest back. The responsible SF announced that they would wait for the program to develop.
- Spain
The Spanish television broadcaster TVE announced that it would stay away from the contest. On the same evening the soccer World Cup qualifier between Spain and Bosnia and Herzegovina took place in Murcia .
