The 31st Eurovision Song Contest took place on May 3rd, 1986 in the Grieghallen in Bergen . For the first time Iceland took part in the Eurovision Song Contest. The Netherlands and Yugoslavia were represented again. Greece and Italy canceled their participation. For Germany the singer Ingrid Peters took part with the title Über die Brücke Geh'n , which landed in eighth place. Austria was worse off: Time is lonely by Timna Brauer in eighteenth place. Switzerland fared better: Daniela Simons came second with Pas pour moi .
particularities
This holding of the contest had a special record: Sandra Kim was the youngest winner so far. She stated that she was 15 years old, but in reality she was only 13. The second-placed Switzerland sensed the chance to win and appealed (unsuccessfully) to the score. After there were renewed discussions in 1989 about two eleven and twelve year old children who sang for France and Israel respectively, the minimum age of participants was set at 16 years from 1990.
Iceland was able to take part for the first time because the Icelanders could "finally" guarantee that the telephone connection would not break down when the Icelandic points were transmitted.
Attendees
Iceland took part in the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time. Yugoslavia and the Netherlands took part again after the year break. But since Greece and Italy did not start, the number of participants “only” rose to 20 countries. The following artist returned to the competition:

Voting procedure
In each country there was an eleven-member jury, which initially determined the ten best songs internally. Then the individual juries awarded 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 points and 1 point to these ten best songs.
