Going over the bridge was the German contribution to the 1986 Eurovision Song Contest , which was sung by Ingrid Peters in German. He reached eighth place in the competition with 62 points.

Music and lyrics

It is a ballad pop - / pop song , which by the end skidding is increased. The text is about understanding other people and cultures and communicating with them: “Go over the bridge, understand other people / Other songs, other countries on earth / Go over the bridge, behind the wall to see / Good thoughts melt the ice in the hearts of our world ”.

Origin and reception

The music and lyrics come from the well-known Schlager and ESC composer Hans Blum alias Henry Valentino. The single was released in March 1986 on Jupiter Records . On the B-side of the single is the song Mitten ins Herz . Peters also recorded the song in English as We've Got a World . On March 27, 1986 Peters won after two unsuccessful appearances in 1979 and 1983. Over the bridge geh'n to the ARD transmitted decider in Munich , A Song for mountains , with the title against two posts by Ralph Siegel / Bernd Meinunger prevailed. On May 21, 1986 Peters appeared with the song in the ZDF hit parade , but could not reach number one, which at that time would have been necessary for another appearance. The single reached number 45 in the German charts and was placed for seven weeks, Peters' last chart success so far.

Song contest

Going over the bridge was listed in 14th place in the Song Contest (after the Belgian Sandra Kim with J'aime la vie and before Elpida from Cyprus with Tora Zo ). The conductor was Hans Blum. In addition to the orchestra, a multi-member band performed. At the end of the vote, the song had received 62 points and finished eighth out of a field of 20. The song received twelve points from the United Kingdom - but this was the only highest score.
