The German preliminary decision for the 1986 Eurovision Song Contest was entitled A Song for Bergen on March 27, 1986 at the Deutsches Theater in Munich .
Participants and placements
Twelve singers competed against each other. Among them were well-known participants such as Joy Fleming , who had already represented Germany before. Wencke Myhre was at the side of the singers as godmother and presenter . After “Headline” with Europe came first with 1074 points in the first interim result , Über die Brücke Geh'n , a composition by Hans Blum , finally won . Ingrid Peters was 148 points ahead of the runner-up with her title. These were again 61 points ahead of the third-placed.

The winning title reached eighth place at the later finals in Bergen . Going over the bridge reached number 45 in the German charts in 1986. It was Ingrid Peters' last song to hit the charts.
The singer Gina Boys from the group “That's Life” later became famous as Gabriele Inaara Begum Aga Khan .
