The German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 1989 took place under the title Ein Lied für Lausanne . Hape Kerkeling led the show for the first time , making him known to a larger audience.

The Bayerische Rundfunk changing the mode of the preliminary decision. For the first time, the German contribution was selected by TED.
