The German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 1963 took place on February 28, 1963 in Frankfurt am Main. It was produced by the Hessischer Rundfunk .

After finishing sixth in the previous year , the person in charge of the Eurovision Song Contest, Hans-Otto Grünefeldt, nominated Immenhof actress Heidi Brühl as a Grand Prix participant. She sang five songs that TV viewers could choose from by postcard voting. A total of 83,515 postcards were sent. 66% of the audience chose the song Marcel , composed by Charly Niessen .
