Under the title Eurovision Song Contest - Unser Song 2017 , the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 took place on February 9, 2017 . The program was produced by Jörg Grabosch for Brainpool and, as in previous years , moderated by Barbara Schöneberger . Directed by Ladislaus Kiraly, the screenplay came from Christof Mannschreck .

Levina won with the song Perfect Life and represented Germany at the ESC on May 13th in Kiev .

concept

After the German contributions to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 and 2016 came last, on September 14, 2016 , the NDR presented a new concept for the selection of the artist and a suitable song. Artists had the opportunity to upload a cover song to YouTube until November 18, 2016 . Only individual interpreters were allowed to apply; Bands were not allowed. The entries will be judged by representatives of NDR and other ARD stations , the production company Raab TV and musical experts, including Wolfgang Dalheimer from heavytones . Applicants are invited to a so-called convention , at which five candidates were finally selected for the German preliminary decision.

These five candidates presented themselves to the audience in a live broadcast on February 9, 2017 and presented songs by national and international composers and producers. Their appearance was accompanied by the heavytones . A three-person jury consisting of Lena Meyer-Landrut , Tim Bendzko and Florian Silbereisen evaluated the artists' performances. In addition, the performances were assessed using the “European mood barometer”. TV viewers from all over Europe were able to rate the songs for international suitability. In four voting rounds, only the audience chose the winner of the German preliminary decision.
