Meg Pfeiffer (* 1983 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German singer-songwriter .

Career

Meg Pfeiffer started taking guitar lessons at the age of eight. A few years later she attended the Pforta State School in Schulpforte with a focus on music, where she received piano, guitar, singing, music theory and music history lessons. Regular choir appearances and minor roles in acting were also part of her early stage experience. She discovered her preference for country , blues and pop music during her long stays in Colorado , New York and Nashville , where she also broadened her experience on stage.

In 2009 she recorded a new country-style version of Lady Gaga's hit Poker Face . With this recording, she applied to various record labels and finally signed a record deal with Sony Music . Her first Sony Music album, Bullrider , was released on August 27, 2010 and contains her own country-style songs and covers. Poker Face was produced in the Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville and released in August 2010 as the first single from the album. The single reached number 78 in the German charts.

In November 2015 Astral Music released the album Sunshine (acoustic) , which also contains numerous original compositions. Pfeiffer took part in the casting for the German preliminary decision of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. In May 2017 she released the EP Perfect Life , on which she presents cover versions of ESC contributions and her own song Love Is What We Need , which she recorded with the Italian guitarist Luca Stricagnoli .

Awards

  • In 2014 she won the German Rock and Pop Prize for “Best Production” and “Best Music Video”.
  • In 2018 she received the European Songwriting Award for her song Love Is What We Need .

reception

Lothar Wandtner from Bayerwald Wochenblatt writes: “This version is brilliant! Poker Face is from Lady Gaga. Yes! But: This country version by Meg Pfeiffer puts the original in the shade. For the editorial team of Bayerwald Wochenblatt it is clear: The cover is better than the original. "

Artur Schulz from laut.de writes: “Well, Meg is pretty and very blonde, but that alone doesn't make a German Taylor Swift . At least she writes her own songs and doesn't choke Madonna's 4 Minutes through the Ponderosa meat grinder until it 's no longer good for McDonald’s either. Even Katy Perry's I Kissed a Girl loses all sexiness on the way from the cowshed to the slaughter. Meg's voice hits the mark, but doesn't get anything out of the target group as food for the television garden. "

Gunther Matejka from countrymusicnews.de writes about the album Sunshine, which was released in 2015 : “Without an enterprising A&R man from a big record company behind her, Meg Pfeiffer took the chance to trace her own musical identity ... Conclusion: After Bullrider, the U-turn towards acoustic folk and Country. "
