A song for Madrid was the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 1969 .

format

Three performers were selected, each allowed to perform three titles.

A jury headed by Hans-Otto Grünefeld sat in Studio 3 of the Hessischer Rundfunk . Members of the jury were Klaus Wüsthoff and Norbert Schultze as representatives of the German Composers' Association , Hans Hee and Hans Bradtke as representatives of the German Lyricists Association , Walter Friedrich and Wolfgang Kretzschmar as representatives of the German Record Working Group, and, in addition to Hans-Otto Grünefeldt, four ARD entertainment directors : Harald Vock from NDR , Hannes Hoff from WDR , Hans Hirschmann from SWF and Edwin Friesch from SDR . The jury was completed by the then Kapellmeister of the Frankfurt am Main municipal theaters , Rudi Franz .

The vote took place by name and in open evaluation. The round was without an audience in the studio, but switched on live. Each jury member had one vote and could only give it to one artist's title. All seven experts voted on the title. Each jury member could award one point for each song. The jury members had to draw a voting board and lay it face down on the table before the announcement in order to rule out possible manipulation. In the first voting round, the task was to find the best title for each of the three performers for the second voting round; this decided who should represent Germany in Madrid .

The three titles of the three performers with the highest ratings were then performed again by the performers. A final voting round followed, in which each expert had to name his favorite.
