history

The German Composers' Association was founded on January 4, 1954 in Munich . It was the successor organization to the composers' associations that emerged in West Germany and Berlin after the Second World War .

As a result of the division of Germany , the Association of German Composers and Musicologists was created in the GDR in 1951 . At the beginning of 1994 the German Composers 'Association and the Association of German Composers (IDK), which was founded in Hamburg in 1977, merged to form the German Composers' Association . The general meeting in 2000 decided to name the professional association the German Composers' Association.

Foundations

The Paul and Käthe-Kick-Schmidt-Foundation was established by the German Composers' Association in 1971 . This was a legal foundation under private law that offered support to composers and their widows in emergencies or accidents.

Another foundation of the association is the Paul-Woitschach-Stiftung - Förderungs- und Hilfsfonds, established in 1990 . This foundation was set up for the purpose of musical promotion and the support of composers and their families.
